Chapter Mission Statement

Information is a vital asset of every organization. The exchange of ideas, among the membership, enables the experienced records professional to promote the value of records information and knowledge as corporate assets and contributions to organizational success.

The mission of ARMA Chicago is to provide educational, research and networking opportunities for the benefit of the chapter's records and information management professionals. ARMA Chicago is committed to presenting programs, workshops and speakers that address the needs of our membership.

Chapter History

The Chicago Chapter can trace it's history back to the Warren Filing Association, founded in 1917. The Chicago Chapter was one of the Charter members of the American Records Management Association. Official documents of the Chapter indicate the following significant dates:

  • Warren Filing Association founded in 1917
  • Chicago Filing Association founded in 1932
  • Records Management Association of Chicago incorporated on February 23, 1952
  • Re-incorporation of organization as American Records Management Association, Chicago Chapter on February 12, 1957
  • Date recorded as receiving ARMA Charter on September 28, 1961
  • ARMA International founded from American Records Management Association and Association of Records Executives and Administrators in 1975
  • Chicago has been the host of five ARMA Conferences, in 1956, 1963, 1971, 1997 and 2005
  • The Chicago Chapter has received the "Chapter of the Year Award" (COTY) in 1975, 1979, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2007
